# RingOtter — Complete Product Updates > Product updates, setup guides, and community feedback for RingOtter, the iPhone app for your own Twilio numbers. Canonical changelog: https://updates.ringotter.com Product website: https://ringotter.com Roadmap: https://updates.ringotter.com/roadmap ## Development update: a consistent message composer Published: 2026-10-25 Canonical: https://updates.ringotter.com/development-update-a-consistent-message-composer Categories: fixed We have been improving how you write messages in RingOtter’s iPhone development builds. - A shared composer brings a consistent writing experience to Inbox conversations, new messages, and Contacts. - Choose a recipient from your contacts or enter a number. - Select the Twilio number you want to send from before sending. This is a development progress update. These changes are being tested; this post does not announce a new App Store release. ## RingOtter’s help and feedback hub is live Published: 2026-10-25 Canonical: https://updates.ringotter.com/ringotters-help-and-feedback-hub-is-live Categories: new RingOtter now has a dedicated place for help, feedback, and product updates at [updates.ringotter.com](https://updates.ringotter.com/). - **Help center:** find guides for connecting Twilio, using your numbers on iPhone, understanding costs, and troubleshooting calls or texts. - **Ideas:** share a request and vote on suggestions. - **Roadmap:** follow the status of planned work. - **Support:** open the circular support button at the bottom right of the RingOtter website to search help or contact us. First identify the failure: a message will not send, Twilio reports it undelivered, an incoming message is missing, or the message arrived without an alert. Each has a different check. ## The message will not send Confirm internet access, the selected outgoing Twilio number, and the recipient’s country and complete phone number. Check that the outgoing number supports SMS in **Numbers → your number → Carrier capabilities**. Read the app’s error before retrying. Confirm that the same account and number appear in Twilio Console. Trial restrictions, account status, and sender requirements may prevent sending. ## The message was sent but not delivered Find the corresponding message in Twilio Console and read its status and error code. A queued or sent status is not the same as confirmation that the destination received it. Use [Twilio’s SMS troubleshooting guide](https://www.twilio.com/docs/messaging/guides/debugging-common-issues) to investigate the error. Check [trial recipient restrictions](https://www.twilio.com/docs/usage/trials) if the account is a trial. Registration or verification may be needed for the sender type and destination; see [Twilio’s sender setup guidance](https://www.twilio.com/docs/messaging/tutorials/send-messages-with-messaging-services). RingOtter does not bypass carrier or account requirements. Avoid sending the same message repeatedly while checking an error. Each accepted attempt may add usage or reach the recipient later. ## The reply does not appear in the app Confirm that the reply reached the intended Twilio number, then check the incoming message in Twilio Console. In RingOtter, open **Numbers → your number → Incoming messages** and inspect its routing. Enabling live messages can replace the number’s existing SMS webhook. Review current and proposed settings before confirming. If the number belongs to a Twilio Messaging Service, its separate inbound configuration may take precedence. Do not change a shared service without understanding the other numbers it serves. Refresh Inbox and check the active number and conversation filters. Search covers loaded messages; older history may need to be loaded. ## The message is there, but no alert arrived Check **Settings → Notifications** in RingOtter and allow notifications in iPhone Settings when prompted or when permission was previously denied. Review the number’s **Alerts and schedule** and iPhone Focus settings. Live message routing, iPhone permission, and alert schedules all affect this path. Reconnecting an account alone is not a substitute for checking them. ## What to include in a support request Include the app version, iOS version, approximate time and timezone, direction of the message, and exact error text. Start without message contents or customer phone numbers. Never include your Auth Token. [Contact RingOtter](https://ringotter.com/contact) for app behavior. Use the Twilio message record and its error when investigating provider delivery. ## Help: Incoming calls do not ring on my iPhone Canonical: https://updates.ringotter.com/help/using-ringotter/incoming-calls Troubleshoot RingOtter incoming calls by checking account calling, per-number routing, permissions, and Twilio call records. Check three things separately: calling on this iPhone, incoming routing for the Twilio number, and settings that can silence or redirect the call. ## Check account calling Open **Settings → Twilio accounts → Calling** for the account that owns the number. Check whether outgoing calling is enabled and incoming calls are registered. If the screen shows an error, address that error before changing routing. Calling is configured on each iPhone. Having another iPhone connected does not by itself register this one. **Settings → Connection status** shows connection diagnostics; it is not a second setup screen. ## Check the exact phone number Open **Numbers → your number → Incoming calls**. Confirm the number and inspect whether incoming calls use ringotter. A number that supports only SMS cannot receive voice calls through this flow. If another application currently handles calls, do not replace its routing casually. Compare the current and proposed settings and confirm only an intended switch. Follow [the setup guide](https://ringotter.com/guides/connect-twilio) for the full review. ## Check settings that affect ringing Review **Numbers → your number → Alerts and schedule**, then its business hours, voicemail settings, and blocked callers. The number’s alert schedule and its caller-handling hours are different settings. Check iPhone Focus and notification settings as well. A call being recorded in history does not necessarily mean an audible alert was allowed at that time. ## Find the matching call in Twilio In Twilio Console, locate the call around the time of your test. Check its status and any error details. If no matching call appears, confirm the number that was dialed and the owning account before debugging the app. Twilio’s [application debugging guide](https://www.twilio.com/docs/usage/troubleshooting/debugging-your-application) explains how to use provider errors. Keep a record of the time and timezone; do not paste private call contents into a public support request. ## Retest without changing several settings at once Call the Twilio number from a phone you control after fixing one identified issue. Check whether the app rings and whether the call appears in its history. Twilio usage charges apply. If it still fails, [contact support](https://ringotter.com/contact) with the app and iOS versions, the approximate call time, and the exact error. Do not send your Auth Token. ## Help: What does Twilio cost with RingOtter? Canonical: https://updates.ringotter.com/help/using-ringotter/twilio-costs Understand the difference between RingOtter app pricing and Twilio number rental, calling, message segments, and provider fees. Your total has two parts: the RingOtter app plan and your Twilio bill. The app price does not include a phone number, call minutes, or text messages. ## The app plan The published monthly USD plans are Basic at $0.99 for one linked number and Pro at $4.99 for unlimited linked numbers, per person. [See the plan details](https://ringotter.com/pricing) and check the purchase terms displayed in the app. ## Phone-number rental Twilio charges for the phone numbers in your account. Rates vary by country and number type. Each additional rented number can add a recurring cost even if you rarely use it. Check the numbers in your Twilio account and [Twilio’s current number pricing](https://www.twilio.com/en-us/phone-numbers/pricing). Removing a RingOtter connection does not release a rented Twilio number. ## Calling usage Voice charges depend on the call direction and destination. Separate call legs or optional provider features can affect a bill. Check the applicable [Twilio Voice pricing](https://www.twilio.com/en-us/voice/pricing) rather than assuming one rate for every call. Pro’s unlimited linked numbers do not mean unlimited minutes. A successful call made while testing your setup is still usage. ## Text-message segments SMS billing is based on segments, not simply the number of bubbles you see in a conversation. Message length and character encoding can turn one text into several billable segments. Emojis or other characters can change the encoding. Use [Twilio’s message-length explanation](https://www.twilio.com/docs/glossary/what-sms-character-limit) and the segment calculator linked there when estimating usage. Check the current [SMS rates](https://www.twilio.com/en-us/sms/pricing) for your sending and destination countries. ## Carrier and registration fees Carrier pass-through fees and sender registration or verification costs may apply. The amount depends on your number type, destination, and messaging use. Check the current pricing notes and registration requirements in Twilio Console. For a US example, [Twilio’s US SMS pricing](https://www.twilio.com/en-us/sms/pricing/us) separates message pricing from additional carrier and registration costs. That page is not a quote for other countries. ## Build an estimate from your own usage - Count the numbers you plan to rent and check their recurring prices. - Estimate incoming and outgoing minutes by destination. - Estimate SMS segments in each direction, not just message count. - Add applicable carrier, registration, tax, and optional-service charges. - Add the RingOtter app plan. Use your Twilio usage records to revise the estimate after real use. There is no single total that applies to every account. ## Help: Manage multiple Twilio numbers Canonical: https://updates.ringotter.com/help/using-ringotter/manage-multiple-twilio-numbers Organize Twilio accounts and phone numbers in RingOtter, choose your outgoing identity, and filter conversations on iPhone. Keep the account, the phone number, and the conversation distinct. An account can own several numbers; each conversation belongs to a particular number and recipient. ## Connect the account that owns each number Use **Settings → Twilio accounts → Connect Twilio account** to add an account. Its numbers appear together under that account in **Numbers**. If a number is missing, check which Twilio account or subaccount owns it. Connecting another account is not the same as creating a new phone number. Number purchase and porting happen separately through Twilio. See [the connection guide](https://ringotter.com/guides/connect-twilio) for credentials and routing. ## Name numbers for the job they do Open **Numbers → your number**, edit its name under **Appearance**, choose a color if useful, then select **Save changes**. Use a name you recognize at a glance, such as the business it serves. A number’s name helps you work in the app; it does not change the phone number itself or guarantee the caller name displayed by another carrier. ## Check the outgoing identity For a default messaging number, open that number’s settings and select **Use for new messages**. This default helps with new messages; still check the selected number in the composer. For calls, choose the outgoing number in the call screen before dialing. In an existing conversation, use the number associated with that conversation so your reply comes from the identity the recipient knows. ## Narrow your inbox Use the number filter to focus on one number’s conversations. Search helps you find text in loaded messages. A conversation for one number is separate from a conversation with the same person on another number. Before replying, check both the contact and number. [Walk through a call and text workflow](https://ringotter.com/guides/use-twilio-number-on-iphone) if you are setting this up for the first time. ## Review routing for each number Calling setup belongs to the Twilio account on this iPhone; incoming routing is reviewed for each number. Do not assume that enabling one number also configures the rest. Before switching a number away from another tool, review its current incoming call and SMS settings. [Incoming-call help](https://ringotter.com/support/incoming-calls) explains the distinction. ## Understand the plan allowance The published Basic plan covers one linked number. Pro covers unlimited linked numbers for one person. This does not create a shared team inbox or include the rental and usage charges of those numbers. [Compare app plans](https://ringotter.com/pricing) and [check the separate Twilio costs](https://ringotter.com/guides/twilio-costs) as you add numbers. ## Help: Use a Twilio number on iPhone Canonical: https://updates.ringotter.com/help/using-ringotter/use-twilio-number-on-iphone Choose an outgoing Twilio number, send a text, make a call, and check replies in RingOtter on iPhone. Use RingOtter to call and text from the Twilio number you choose. Start by checking the outgoing number, especially when you keep personal and business numbers in the same app. ## Check your setup first If this is your first time, [connect your Twilio account](https://ringotter.com/guides/connect-twilio) and review incoming routing. Confirm that your chosen number has the capability you need. Calls require voice support; text messages require SMS support. The app plan does not include Twilio usage. A test call or text may incur a provider charge. ## Send a text from the right number Open **Inbox** and start a new message, or open an existing conversation. Check the outgoing Twilio number before sending. Enter the recipient’s number with the correct country, write your message, and send it. When you reply in an existing conversation, confirm the conversation’s number identity. A customer who contacted one business number should receive the reply from that same number. If the recipient does not get the text, check the message status and the [delivery troubleshooting steps](https://ringotter.com/support/text-message-delivery). Avoid repeatedly sending the same message while investigating. ## Make a call Open **Calls** and start a new call. Choose the outgoing Twilio number, then enter the destination or choose a contact. Check the country and complete number before calling. Microphone access and account calling setup must be ready on this iPhone. If the other person cannot hear you, check microphone permission and your audio route. If the call is rejected, check the app’s error and the matching Twilio call record. ## Receive the reply or callback Incoming calls and live messages depend on the number’s routing as well as this iPhone’s setup. Outgoing success alone does not prove that incoming routing is enabled. Call your Twilio number from another phone you control and reply to your test text. If the call never rings or the reply does not appear, follow [incoming-call help](https://ringotter.com/support/incoming-calls) or [message help](https://ringotter.com/support/text-message-delivery). ## Find the conversation later Use Inbox search or its number filter to narrow the conversations you see. Search operates on loaded messages; load older messages if you need earlier history. When several numbers are connected, [give each number a recognizable name](https://ringotter.com/guides/manage-multiple-twilio-numbers) so the outgoing identity is easier to check. ## Help: Connect Twilio to your iPhone Canonical: https://updates.ringotter.com/help/using-ringotter/connect-twilio Connect your Twilio account to RingOtter, check imported numbers, and review incoming call and message routing safely. Connect your own Twilio account, check the numbers it contains, then review calling and incoming routing separately. Linking an account is not the same as moving every incoming call or message to ringotter. ## Before you connect - Use an iPhone running iOS 18 or later with internet access. - Have access to the Twilio account that owns your phone numbers. - Check whether each number supports voice, SMS, or both. - If another app uses those numbers, record its incoming routing before making changes. Twilio fees remain separate from the [RingOtter app plan](https://ringotter.com/pricing). [Check compatibility](https://ringotter.com/compatibility) if you are unsure about your number or destination. ## Find your Twilio account credentials Open [Twilio Console](https://console.twilio.com/) for the account that owns your numbers. Find its **Account SID** and **Auth Token**. Use that account’s credentials, not credentials from a different project or subaccount. Enter credentials only in the app’s connection screen. Do not put an Auth Token in a support message, screenshot, or this website’s contact form. See [Twilio’s authentication documentation](https://www.twilio.com/docs/usage/requests-to-twilio) if you need help identifying them. ## Connect and check your numbers During setup, open **Connect Twilio**, enter your Account SID and Auth Token, and select **Connect Twilio**. To add another account later, open **Settings → Twilio accounts → Connect Twilio account**. Open **Numbers** and check that the expected phone numbers appear under the right account. Open a number to see **Carrier capabilities**. If the list is empty, confirm that Twilio Console shows numbers in the same account, then refresh Numbers. ## Set up calling on this iPhone Open **Settings → Twilio accounts**, choose **Calling** for the account, and follow the setup screen. Allow microphone access when asked. Calling setup applies to each iPhone. Account calling and per-number incoming routing are separate. If outgoing calls work but this iPhone does not ring, use the [incoming-call checklist](https://ringotter.com/support/incoming-calls). ## Review incoming routing before enabling it For voice, open **Numbers → your number → Incoming calls**. Compare the current and proposed routing. Enable incoming calls only if you intend RingOtter to replace that number’s current call handler. For live messages, open **Numbers → your number → Incoming messages**. Review the proposed SMS routing before confirming. It can replace an existing SMS webhook. A Twilio Messaging Service may use separate inbound settings. If the number serves another app, coordinate the change first. Keep the previous settings so you can restore them. Do not overwrite webhooks just to try a troubleshooting step. ## Test both directions Choose the intended number and send a short text to a phone you control. Reply from that phone. Make an outgoing call, then call your Twilio number from the other phone. Confirm the correct number appears on each side. Twilio usage charges apply to tests. Check app notification permission if messages appear when the app is open but alerts do not arrive. For errors, use [text-message troubleshooting](https://ringotter.com/support/text-message-delivery) or [incoming-call troubleshooting](https://ringotter.com/support/incoming-calls). ## Before disconnecting Restore incoming call and SMS routing for each enabled number before disconnecting your last RingOtter device. Removing the app connection does not cancel your Twilio account or release your numbers. [Contact us](https://ringotter.com/contact) if a routing screen does not match what you expect. Never send account secrets.
